The
BAT HOUSE at Pechdou is situated on the edge of a tiny hamlet one mile to the east of Saint Maurin and 15 minutes from Agen. The hamlet is set on a hillside, surrounded by tranquil and beautiful farmland and woods, but is tucked away just half a mile from the nearest departmental road (the D.16).
Accommodation
The house is newly converted and simply furnished, but with all the necessary
comforts.
It comprises:
upstairs a large landing gives
onto:
 |
A bathroom, with full sized bath, washbasin & WC |
 |
2 bedrooms, both with 2 single beds
There is room in the main bedroom, or on the large landing, or in the sitting room for the
2 extra occasional beds provided, should they be required. |
As with most houses in this area the first floor rooms all have velux windows and are set under the eaves. The plus side of this is the picturesque atmosphere, but it also brings restricted headroom in some parts. Our 6' son finds no problems!
Duvets, pillows and
underblankets are provided but NOT bed linen , towels or tea towels.
Outside
Outside there is lots of mowed grassy space in front of the house, and also a side garden which adjoins the fields. Shade can be found in this side
garden, or the back terrace. Garden furniture is provided.
About 50 yards across the garden is a delightful
swimming pool, with a pebble surround, grassy sunbathing area, and incredible views. On a clear day the Pyrenees may be seen in the far
distance.

The pool gets the sun from the moment it rises to the moment it sets. It measures
10m x 5m, has Roman steps leading into the shallow end . From time to time neighbours from within the hamlet may use the pool.
Things
to do!
The surrounding 84 acres belongs to Pechdou and is freely available for
walks and exploration. In this part of France there are very few boundaries, and by and large you are welcome to walk around most fields, as long as the crops and property are respected. The barns in the hamlet are old and picturesque and the countryside is criss-crossed with public tracks for visitors' enjoyment - suitable for both
walking and biking.
Golf, horse-riding, fishing and tennis are all available
locally . There is a public (card operated) telephone in the hamlet for visitors' use.
Local Amenities
Saint Maurin village boasts
a general store, post office and bar.
Agen is a large town/small city and
as well as all the hypermarches and services to be expected it has a delightful
river & canal yacht basin where boats can be hired.
Getting
There!
Agen
is also well served by trains (including the TGV; Agen to Waterloo is about
6 hrs!) and the A62 autoroute. Bordeaux and Toulouse are both just an hour and a quarter away, with their
international airports.
