Nick came to us in 2004, from an owner who could no longer care for him. He had been moved around from home to home, some good, some less good, & was getting very unsure of himself. NEDDI was pleased to be able to offer him a safe & permanent home. He had an unpronounceable name (& a bit silly, not nearly dignified enough!) so our supporters have re-named him Nick - maybe because it was around Christmas time.

Born on 20th May,1992,he was a total surprise to everyone, as his mother Rosie had been declared ‘just that shape’! He was born into a field of buttercups, and was skipping about in the morning, when we came out. The only suspicion that we should have had is that one of us dreamt of his arrival 2 nights earlier, right down to his distinctive markings.
JAZZY was born to Margaret-Joyce in June 1993. She had neglected to mention to anyone that she was going to have a foal and had not changed shape at all to warn us, so Jazzy was just there in the stable one morning! Like all donkey foals he was very naughty but now he is grown-up, and has turned out to be a very handsome donkey, if a little bossy. He definitely does like his own way!
HEATHER came to us in 1994 after her owners were moving to a new home without land. She was going to be turned out on to the moor to fend for herself! She is very calm and sweet natured, and (we think)particularly beautiful. There was a time when she was the troop leader at NEDDI , but she’s getting on a bit now and has handed over “out-door” leadership to Beatrice, who is a bit fitter and more sprightly!
JIMMY came from Blackpool, where he was born into a beach-donkey herd, but because he was a small donkey, and very thin and weak, he was being disposed of. Since being at the sanctuary he has developed quite well, but he is never going to be particularly big. He is quite nervous, but takes strength from his particlar friend Ernie, who is naughty and pushy enough for both of them.
LAURA was born at the sanctuary in 1994. She is just a big baby, and has had to be separated from her mother, Penny, whenever possible because she refuses to acknowledge that she is grown-up now!She is very tall for a donkey and no-one can quite work out who her father might have been. Whoever he was, he must have had a very stubborn streak which he has passed on to Laura.
