VALENTINA was born at the sanctuary on 14th February 1996. Her mother was Alice. Valentina can be a bit over-boisterous sometimes, but it is all very good natured. It is taking some time to learn some manners! She has grown up to be a very good-looking donkey and might win some prizes if she entered some competitions. She would definitely win prizes for escaping through fences - she doesn’t seem to believe that the same rules apply for her as for other animals, and just barges through them if she fancies being on the other side.!

BON-JOVI is a mule (half donkey/half pony) who was rescued via the RSPCA and was in a very poor state. He had virtually no shelter and was standing in deep mud. He is a wonderfully helpful animal, and is broken to the saddle and harness. Once he was fit and healthy he used to draw the little cart for the children`s rides and therefore maintained that he was the only animal on the working staff.(Rover, the guard dog disputed this!) These days he has no need to work any more, and devotes all his time to (too much) eating. He is on a diet, much to his disgust. He has a sweet nature, except on days when a gale is blowing and has the advantage of choosing whether to be a donkey, or a pony, or sometimes both,on each day as it dawns.
GILBERT - “Bertie” to his friends. Very small & had a really bad time from some children where he was born, so is still quite nervous. Part of his difficulties in early years caused him to lose most of the hair on his tail, so he is still a bit short-changed in that direction.
UTAH - He was one of a group of five donkeys found in the north of France in very poor condition, in fact almost completely un-cared for. Some kind people took them away from their immediate problmes but then encountered major problems of their own, so all five came into the NEDDI sanctuary together. Utah was the most afraid when he was found and is still very nervous of strangers.
DAKOTA - is a dark grey male with stunning markings, rescued from an uncaring owner in northern France together with Utah, Tahoe, Sequoia & Sierra. He is very handsome (and knows it!) and is a little inclined to stand about in glamorous poses to be admired. Maybe a career in films is called for?
TAHOE - is a dark brown male and very friendly, in spite of what he was suffering when he was found. One of the “gang of five” he is a sweet natured donkey and gets on with all the others very well.
