Twenty-seven donkeys, seven of which had already been butchered, were seized by police during a house raid in the southern city of Adana. Ramazan Anar (28) is suspected of illegally selling the donkey meat to local restaurants and kebab shops.Police were notified when a truck carrying a large shipment of donkeys arrived at a house in Adana’s Yüreğir neighborhood, prompting a special operation by officers of the Köprübaşı Central Police Department. Monitoring the location Anar used as a breeding pen in order to catch the suspect in the act, the raid uncovered twenty live donkeys and seven more that had recently been butchered. The donkeys and donkey meat are now in police custody.Anar already had a prior indictment for the same crime, and last January had been caught with 1200 kilograms of illegal meat but was released. The investigation revealed that Anar had sold his donkey meat to several restaurants and kebab stalls before he was caught. The investigation is still ongoing.
